BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A man made death threats to his girlfriend because she drank some of his beer and spoke to her ex-boyfriend, officials said.

Israel Alvarez threatened his girlfriend, who knew him by the name of David Garza, and hurt her back by pushing her into a refrigerator in their apartment in the 300 block of State Street in Bethlehem at about 6:50 a.m. Sunday, officials said, adding that the woman called police after Alvarez fell asleep.

Alvarez identified himself as Jose Garcia when police found him sleeping in a bedroom and told them he had no photo ID or Social Security number, officials said.

He would not discuss the incident, but only said his girlfriend was "crazy," officials noted.

Alvarez's true identity was discovered when he was fingerprinted and police discovered he had been arrested several times in Louisiana, officials said.

Alvarez, 34, was arraigned on charges of making terroristic threats, harassment and giving false identification to police and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $10,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. July 31.
