A popular seafood restaurant that was revived with much fanfare in Berks County is now closed.

SPRING TWP., Pa. -

The revived Seafood Shanty that opened to much fanfare in Berks County last year is now closed. And so far there are no answers on whether the closing is permanent.

On Sunday, people showing up to eat at Seafood Shanty in Spring Township were greeted by a hand-written closed sign at the main entrance.

The sign directed all inquiries to the phone number for the company's headquarters.

The restaurant  filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this summer.

Calls to Seafood Shanty seeking comment have not been returned.

The restaurant opened in February 2012.

That was about 18 years after the original Seafood Shanty closed because of tax problems.

The restaurant was revived by a longtime fan.
