Swarms of crickets are terrorizing residents across Oklahoma this summer.

Entomologists at Oklahoma State University say the summer's right combination of weather conditions such as a dry spring and early summer followed by late July and August rainfall have helped with the field cricket explosion. If field crickets have safe places to lay their eggs, and some of their predators are gone, they can thrive.

Experts say spike in population occurs every few years and the infestation should only last a few more weeks, NewsOn6 reports.
