A bomb scare brought traffic to a standstill on a busy highway in Berks County.

AMITY TWP., Pa. -

A bomb scare put the brakes on the evening commute through a busy stretch of Berks County on Friday.

Police closed a stretch of Route 422 in Amity Township around 5 p.m. for the report of a suspicious device at the Wawa convenience store at 10 Maplewood Dr.

Fire tucks staged around the area while the Reading police bomb squad responded with its robot. It soon determined that there was no danger. What was thought to be suspicious turned out to be a lighting fixture with some exposed wires, police said.

Route 422 reopened about 90 minutes later.
