Charges of homicide have been added to a long list of accusations against Fallonn Craig, the woman suspected of intentionally starting the fire that burned the Mineral Springs Hotel to the ground on Oct. 22, 2013, in Forks Township, Northampton County.
According to a police affidavit filed Friday, John Beck died from complications directly related to these injuries on Nov. 14, 2013.
Beck, a disabled elderly man who lived in the hotel, was carried out of the fire by crews at the scene, transported to the hospital and treated for thermal trauma and smoke inhalation.
After an autopsy the day after his death, it was determined that the cause and manner of Beck's death was a homicide.
Immediately after the Oct. 22 fire, Craig repeatedly admitted to police that she set the fire on purpose.
Craig told police that she decided to set the fire after a fight with her boyfriend, Charles Unangst, Jr. that October morning.
According to a police affidavit, both Unangst and Craig returned to her apartment around 6 a.m. after getting off from work, when Craig admitted she began to drink rum and coke while fighting with her boyfriend.
Unangst eventually left, and Craig then used a "long camping style lighter" to set the bed in her apartment on fire, according to a police affidavit.
Police were originally called to the scene for a domestic assault, but while heading to the scene learned that a woman was starting a fire.
The fire destroyed the restaurant and apartments of the Mineral Springs Hotel.
Craig had waived her preliminary hearing dealing with arson and other charges in December.
She is scheduled to go to trial for those charges June 2, 2014.
A preliminary hearing for the homicide charges has been set for May 16 at 9 a.m. in Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline Taschner's courtroom.
Judge Taschner denied bail for Craig at her arraignment Friday.
