CLINTON TWP., N.J. -

What appeared to be a homemade firebomb was found stuck in the dirt only about three feet from a house on Tuesday in Clinton Township, Hunterdon County.

Police didn't call it a Molotov cocktail, but it was described as an olive oil bottle with gasoline in it and a rag sticking out. The bottle had been pushed down into the earth, apparently to hold it in place, along La Jolla Lane in the township.

It was spotted by a resident walking by the home.

Clinton Township police were called. They took it to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor for fingerprinting.

Law enforcement officials have not yet determined if the device was placed there with malicious intent or by someone just playing a potentially dangerous prank.
