SALISBURY TWP., Pa. -

A woman who plunged 30 feet from a cliff in Berks County remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Lara Kadambi was hiking with her husband and others along the Appalachian Trail in Albany Township when she slipped while sightseeing and fell from the cliff.

A group of doctors from Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Boy Scouts, campers and others who were hiking in the area rushed to help Kadambi until first responders could reach the remote scene about 45 minutes later.

"It was taking what felt like forever for rescue to arrive, so I called 911 again once I got reception, and they noted that the helicopter was on its way," said John Blanche, who was one of the first people to reach Kadambi after she fell. "After all the doctors... arrived on scene, I ran down to the helipad to meet the rescue crews and hiked back up with them."

Kadambi, 38, of Wilmington, Del., was flown to the trauma center at Lehigh Valley Hospital near Allentown.

"Lara stopped and talked to my cousin and I about my dog just before she fell," Blanche said. "She seemed like a very sweet lady, and I hope she makes a full recovery."
