MUHLENBERG TWP., Pa. -

A cloud of mystery hangs over the Greater Reading Expo Center in Berks County.

Event organizers have been forced to find new locations for their events after receiving word the expo center may be closing.

The site, which sits on the border between Reading and Muhlenberg Township, has brought thousands of people to the county each year, but its future remains uncertain.

"We went into overdrive thinking of where we could go, where we could do it and how we could keep this sale viable," said John Panase, who helps his wife run the Just Between Friends consignment sale.

Panase said they were thrown for a loop when they received word the site's future was in jeopardy. They spent weeks searching for a new location. They reached an agreement, and the consignment sale will now be held at the Body Zone in Spring Township.

"It was a struggle to find a big enough venue to house this type of event," said Panase.

It's a struggle organizers of The Reading Pet Expo also faced.

"The problem we had is that The Reading Pet Expo is so huge and so large that none of the buildings could accommodate us," said Dennis Garetano, who runs the pet expo.

The Reading area location is the pet expo's most popular. Instead of canceling, organizers moved the event to the Reading Fairgrounds in Bern Township.

The last event scheduled at the expo center is the Redner's Family Expo on Nov. 2 and 3. Organizers of that event said they have not been told yet what the future holds.
