HARRISBURG, Pa. -

Governor Tom Corbett went under the knife in an outpatient procedure Thursday.

Corbett had an abdominal hernia successfully repaired, state officials said.

The procedure was done at Allegheny General Surgical Center in Pittsburgh.

The 90-minute procedure was considered to be routine, and the governor was immediately released.

According to a news release, Corbett plans to resume his duties immediately after being released, and will recuperate at his home in Shaler Twp., Allegheny Co., before returning to Harrisburg on Monday.

First Lady Susan Corbett was with her husband at the surgical center during the procedure.

Recent physical examinations have shown Corbett, 64, to be in excellent health.

Following state rule, Lt. Gov. James Cawley was acting governor during the brief time while the governor is under anesthesia.
