BETHLEHEM, Pa. -

A 50-year-old North Carolina man repeatedly punched his girlfriend in the face early Christmas morning because she had hidden the alcohol from him.

James Leon Lindsey of Charlotte, N.C., is charged with harassment and simple assault.

The incident happened at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the 800 block of Wyandotte St. in Bethlehem.

When Bethlehem police arrived at the home, they encountered Lindsey walking out, with blood on his hands. The woman was inside, bleeding from the mouth.

The victim told police she hid the alcohol because Lindsey drank too much.  She said he become angry and searched the house. When he could not find it, he again demanded it. When she told him she threw it out, he jumped on her and struck her in the face with a closed fist,  six or seven times.

The woman was transported to St. Luke's Hospital for her bleeding lip, as well as head and neck pain.

Bail was set at $20,000. Unable to post the required 10 percent, Lindsey was incarcerated in Northampton County Prison.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Jan. 3 before Magisterial District Judge Nancy Matos Gonzelez of Bethlehem.
