Former Warren County sheriff surrenders after child sex abuse charges

A former Warren County, New Jersey sheriff is back in town to face the music.
On Wednesday, 85-year-old Edward Bullock, of Ocean County, surrendered on child sex abuse charges.
Prosecutors say they knew at some point Bullock would turn himself in.
"We had been in touch with his attorney, we knew of his medical conditions," said Michael McDonald, first assistant prosecutor for Warren County. "None of this was a surprise. And we realized that he was not going to be running from us."
Bullock is facing six counts of sexual assault.
Court records say that on or about Jan. 7, 1988, Bullock had sex with a 10-year-old boy while the child was in his custody as the Warren County sheriff.
"Mr. Bullock is 85 years old," said defense attorney, Brian White. "He's not in good health. He recently underwent a knee replacement a few weeks ago. He had a hip replacement within the last year. He's been treated for many years for heart conditions."
White said his client is not a flight risk and argued for a lower bail.
Judge Ann Bartlett agreed, but didn't grant the defense's $75,000 request.
"The severity of the charges is something the court must always bear in mind," added Bartlett. "And I set bail at $100,000, no 10 percent."
This is not the first time Edward Bullock has faced criminal charges.
In 1991, Bullock pleaded guilty to official misconduct after seeking sexual favors from an undercover officer posing as a teenage boy.
These latest charges came about after a civil lawsuit, and prosecutors think there is enough evidence for trial.
"We're committed on going forward with this case," said McDonald. "We understand that these charges we got regard allegations that took place some time ago."
Bullock was not required to enter a plea during the hearing.
His attorney refused an on-camera interview, but says his client denies all of the allegations and that he will trust the system to make the right decision.
