Flood watch

A flood watch for the area is in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening.

Damp and dreary conditions are expected to be the big story for the rest of the weekend as an area of low pressure continues to affect the region.

Steady rain will continue to push through the area overnight before gradually tapering to occasional rain and drizzle on Sunday. Some of the rain may be heavy at times leading to minor flooding in a few locations.

Otherwise, look for rather cloudy on Sunday along with windy conditions and highs in the upper 40s and lower 50s. The storm system will gradually pull away from the area late Sunday night allowing the rain to slowly taper off to a lingering shower by Monday morning.

Rainfall totals through the weekend will generally be between 1.5 and 2.5 inches, but locally higher amounts are also expected. One question that remains to be seen is whether the colder air moving in behind the system is cold and quick enough to catch up with the precipitation late Sunday night and early Monday morning. If the were to occur, some locations (especially north and west of the Lehigh Valley) could see a bit of wet snow or a wintry mix at the tail end of this event.

We will keep an eye on the situation and let you know. Either way the wet weather will clear out early on Monday with some sunshine returning to the area by the afternoon hours. High temperatures on Monday will reach into the middle 50s.
