NAZARETH, Pa. -

A Florida man claimed he was a police officer when he went to a Northampton County woman's home and told her that her son had stolen a phone, officials said.

Darvell M. Kish told Barbara Shantz that she had to pay him $300 for the stolen phone or he would arrest her son, Nathan Schweizer, during a visit to Shantz's home at 124 Progress St., Nazareth, on Oct. 24, officials said.

Schweizer reported the incident on Tuesday, and told police Kish had also visited the department store where her son works and told the manager that Schweizer was stealing phones, officials noted.

The store manager identified Kish through a photo, officials said, adding that the manager said Kish told her he would arresting Schweizer for stealing phones and that Kish's uncle is a police officer.

Kish, 21, of Dania Beach, Fla., was arraigned a charge of impersonating a public servant and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Nov. 14.
