Fire damages house in Northampton County

A Palmer Township family is counting their blessings tonight after their home went up in flames. Frantic banging on their door by a complete stranger may have saved everyone's lives.
Crews rushed to put out the flames. A house on Leeman Street in Palmer Township caught fire around 12:30 Friday. The entire Vasquez family was still inside.
"Someone was banging on the front door and said to get out of the house your house is on fire," described homeowner Dave Vasquez.
He says a total stranger noticed the blaze and stopped.
"We come out and the whole back of the house is on fire," Vasquez shared.
The flames and smoke quickly engulfed the house. Vasquez says he's grateful for the warning that allowed his family to escape the inferno, and possibly death.
"My wife, my son and myself, we all got out of the house."
The family's two cats, Minnie and Oreo, also made it out okay. Fire officials say it appears the fire started in a basement apartment then spread to the back of the home.
"All of the sudden it just started," added Vasquez. "I have no idea how it started or whatever."
We're told it took five departments about 20 minutes to get the blaze under control. The cause is still under investigation. Thanks to social media, the fire commissioner says he was able to track down the woman who alerted the family. Officials plan to speak with her Monday.
