Fightin Phils blow lead in 9th, fall in 10th
The Reading Fightin Phils blew a two-run 9th-inning lead on Sunday, falling 7-6 to Akron at FirstEnergy Stadium.
Reading brought a 6-4 lead into the 9th, and was one strike away from victory twice.
But a wild pitch by Kyle Simon allowed the Aeros to cut the lead to 6-5, then Jesus Aguilar hit a game-tying single to force extra innings.
In the 10th, Giovanny Urshela hit an RBI double with two outs to win the game for the Aeros.
Derek Mitchell hit his fourth homer of the past week for Reading.
Tyson Gillies had three hits, including a two-run single, while Miguel Abreu added two hits and an RBI.
Colby Shreve (0-1, 9.00) took the loss for Reading in relief.
The Fightin Phils (14-21) have lost 10 of their last 12 games.
They'll kick off a three-game series in Erie Monday night at 6:35pm.
