Family, friends remember brave girl

Hundreds turned out at Glad Tidings Church in Spring Township to say good-bye to a 26-month old little girl who touched many hearts.
Nely Cintron fought for several years to stay alive after she was attacked by her biological father, leaving her blind and paralyzed.
After Nely was injured, Elisa Cintron and her husband, Jason, adopted Nely.
"You never think it can happen to you, and it can. And our family was rocked to the core," said Elisa Cintron, Nely's adoptive mother.
Nely's adoptive father, Jason, even put his career as a professional boxer on hold to take care of Nely, and said he and his wife will miss Nely dearly.
"It's hard, you know. We'll get there eventually. We'll get there," Jason Cintron said.
Nely died of her injuries in September. About a week after her death, her biological father, Hector Garcia, pleaded guilty to 3rd degree murder for the death of his daughter and was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in prison.
Elisa and Jason said they are determined to use this tragedy to help prevent the spread of child abuse.
"We need to break the cycle, that cycle of abuse needs to stop at the source," Elisa Cintron said.
Everyone who showed up to the service was offered a blue bracelet, a pledge to stop the spread of child abuse.
"Hopefully, people open their eyes, and they have the strength to come out and beat it, just fight it and try to stop the children abuse," Jason Cintron said.
Elisa and Jason have also set up the "Nely Fund" at Berks Counseling Center. The fund will help prevent the spread of child abuse.
