Extensive accident, snow conditions snarl I-78 traffic in Berks

An accident involving more than 30 vehicles, including five tractor trailers, shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 78 in the middle of Sunday's snow storm.
The pileup happened around 4 p.m. near the Hamburg interchange in Berks County. Crews worked more than four hours to clear the highway, standing thousands of drivers in their vehicles until it reopened around 8:20 p.m.
Sage Mouser, a student at Kutztown University, was among those stuck.
"I am coming from Allentown. I am going back to school at Kutztown and I just missed my exit, so I got onto this road," said Mouser, who turned off her car to conserve fuel. "I have 11 miles left, so my car is actually off now."
Mouser hit the traffic jam around 7 p.m. near mile-marker 30, almost 10 miles from the accident.
Judy Guise was headed to Harrisburg from Quakertown, Bucks Co., when traffic came to a stop.
"It was fine. I thought I'll make it by 8:30 p.m. and then boom! Red lights, and nothing has moved," Guise said.
Guise said she knew about the accident, but she believed she would be exiting the interstate before reaching the jam.
"They had one of their notifications coming up before the 737 exit, and it said problem after mile 30. This is not mile 30," Guise said.
One family 69 News spoke with said it had to turn around and drive on the shoulder because a baby was in the car.
Several injuries were reported, but none was believed to be serious, according to police.
