Emmaus catches up with volunteer awards, almost

A tradition of honoring exceptional volunteers in one Lehigh County borough is back on track, almost.
After a three-year hiatus, Emmaus Borough Council began playing catch up Wednesday night and presented Volunteer of the Year awards for 2010 and 2012.
The recipient of the 2011 award could not be present at the meeting, so council decided to put off announcing the winner.
and Gene Clock were given the award for 2010 for their work with the Emmaus Main Street Partners, while Bob Boehmer received the 2012 award for his efforts with the Emmaus Arts Commission.
Council members Dr. Mike Waddell and Nathan Brown conducted the awards presentation.
Waddell praised Madison and Clock as "consumate marketers" of the Main Street Partners, which has worked to revitalize Emmaus' historic downtown since officially incorporating in 1995 as a non-profit program.
Waddell said Boehmer "has captured the quality of life for this community in a very special way" through his work as an artist and his six-year tenure as president of the arts commission.
Waddell told Madison, Clock and Boehmer, "Welcome to the hall of fame," after he presented special bricks to the trio that will be placed in Emmaus' Remembrance Garden at the old Knauss Homestead.
Before the presentations, Waddell said council began handing out the volunteer awards in 2005. "But something happened after 2009," he added somewhat sheepishly. "Some of us just forgot."
