Rt 22 commuters can expect delays as the bridge project in Easton-Phillipsburg gets underway.

EASTON, Pa. -

Lane closures for the Easton-Phillipsburg (Route 22) Toll Bridge Rehabilitation Project will be suspended on June 20 and will be re instituted early Monday morning according to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission.

At approximately 4 a.m. on June 24, Eastbound Route 22 will be reduced to one lane after the 13th Street exit and before Cemetery Curve and is expected to last until July 2. The suspension will be lifted for travel for the duration of the July 4 holiday weekend.

Also beginning on June 24, Westbound Route 22 will be restricted to a single-lane from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each weekday next week. Two-lane travel will resume for the duration of the July 4 holiday afternoon.

Motorists should expect potential traffic backups and travel delays during patterns of single-lane traffic on Route 22.

Commuters traveling from Lehigh Valley to jobs in North Jersey or New York are advised to take I-78 in Pennsylvania as an alternative to Route 22 according to the Commission.
