Police investigating an arson in Berks County made a quick arrest, thanks to the suspect's dropped wallet.

UNION TWP., Pa. -

Police investigating an arson near Birdsboro, Berks Co., made a quick arrest, thanks to the suspect's dropped wallet.

Joshua Brian Klopp admitted to investigators that he set fire to a home at 1789 E. Main St., in Union Township around 5:30 p.m. Thursday, police said.

A state police fire marshal at the scene determined that Klopp took the homeowners' gas can from their unlocked shed and started the fire, which was quickly put out by a neighbor and passerby before firefighters arrived, police said.

Investigators, searching for evidence, found Klopp's wallet and identification at the scene, leading them to find Klopp at his girlfriend's home in neighboring Amity Township, said police, who found he had injuries consistent with a burn.

Klopp, who gave no motive for setting the fire, was charged with one count each of arson, burglary and criminal trespass and three counts each of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.

Klopp, 21, was committed to the Berks County Jail on $40,000 bail.
