A deadly crash in Schuylkill County was a tale of both tragedy and heroism.
The accident occurred around 3:25 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Route 125 and Molleystown Road in Tremont Township when Barbara Shuster, 73, of Pine Grove, was killed when her car crashed with another vehicle.
The impact ruptured the fuel tank of Shuster's car, causing it to catch fire, according to state police.
The heroism occurred when five men in passing vehicles pulled over and rushed to free a 64-year-old Pine Grove woman from the car.
Police said Susan Mindermann would have died if the men did not smash out the window and pull her from the rapidly burning vehicle.
Police say the crash occurred when Shuster's car pulled out from Molleystown Road, into the path of a Hummer driven by 48-year-old David Frew of Pine Grove.
Frew and Mindermann were taken to Hershey Medical Center.
The crash remains under investigation.
Police have identified the Good Samaritans as Michael Macareno, Christopher Cluver, Scott Lyons, Jeremy Lengle and Gordon Wolfe.
