Dog dead after fire in Schuylkill County

NEWKIRK, Pa. -

A Schuylkill County family got safely out of its burning home early Tuesday, but the family dog did not.

The fire broke out around 5:45 a.m. at a home at 514 Old 209 Rd. in Newkirk, just outside Tamaqua.

Crews got the fire under control in around 30 minutes.

None of the family was injured, but a pet dog died in the blaze.

The Tuscarora Fire Company is investigating the fire.
