MECHANICSBURG, Pa. -

The race for Pennsylvania governor has one less candidate.

On Monday, Democrat Max Myers announced his plans to withdraw his candidacy.

“The logistical and financial challenges of moving my campaign forward have become too great to overcome,” said Myers, a Pentacostal minister.

The 60-year-old Mechanicsburg resident told The Associated Press on Monday he's decided he cannot raise money necessary to be competitive or gather enough petition signatures to get his name on the May 20 ballot.

He said he does not plan to run for public office again but plans to stay involved in public issues as opportunities arise.

Myers' withdrawal leaves seven other candidates vying for the Democratic nomination.
