A disturbing and potentially deadly new game called knockout is popping up across the country, and it's already shown up in our area.
The object is to knock a random pedestrian unconscious with a single punch.
Police in Lower Merion Twp., Montgomery Co., said they are investigating two possible knockout attacks that happened in the past two months.
A 63-year-old man was attacked while he was walking his dog in October. Two 19-year-old men were charged in that case.
According to our media partner, WPVI-TV, the suspects were identified as Samuel Hayles and Marcus January, both of the 1300 block of Kimberly Drive in Philadelphia.
Hayles was identified as the one who threw the punch, police said.
The victim suffered minor injuries as a result of the assault.
In September, an elderly man was punched while he was mowing his lawn. The victim fell and hurt his leg.
Officials in New Jersey said that at least one person died in a similar attack in Jersey City.
Similar attacks have also been reported in St. Louis, New York, Washington and Michigan.
