UPDATE: Please see updated story - POLICE: WOMAN BIRTHED STILLBORN BABY IN BATHTUB
Police in Schuylkill County are investigating after an infant's body was found inside a trash bag Tuesday morning.
Authorities were called to the 100 block of Winfield Street in Blythe Township just after midnight, after a person living in the home found the girl's body on the property.
Nearby neighbors said they are shocked and disturbed after hearing the news.
"Very startling. It happened right next door. It's hard to believe it happened so close to you," said Marty Bowers, a neighbor.
Police later arrested Tara Paltanavage, 22.
The Middleport woman faces a list of charges including child endangerment, abuse of a corpse, and concealing the death of a child.
She is currently behind bars at the Schuylkill County Prison.
Bail is set at $250,000.
It's unclear how Paltanavage knew the child.
An autopsy will reveal the age of the child, and how she died.
Police said further investigation is pending the results of that report.
Neighbors said they are hoping justice will be served.
"I don't know many of the details, or what really went on. But hopefully, justice is served. You never want to see an infant's life taken that way," said Joe Serano, a neighbor.
A family member declined comment.
