ONTELAUNEE TWP., Pa. -

A man is improving after being shot by an off-duty cop during a road rage altercation, authorities said Thursday.

The man was critically injured when he was shot Tuesday night on Route 61 in Ontelaunee Township.

Police are still trying to determine what exactly led to the incident. They said three men in one car and the off-duty officer, who was traveling alone, got out of their cars and there was a confrontation.

The off-duty officer, who hasn't been identified, used his personal weapon and not his service revolver when he opened fire, said District Attorney John Adams.

One of the other men in the other car, Roman Villa, has been charged with giving police a fake name and briefly escaping custody.

No other charges have been filed.
