BUSHKILL TOWNSHIP, Pa. -

A man got into a fistfight with his father after threatening to kill his parents and burn down the house where they all live, officials said.

Cory J. Merritt began attacking his father, biting him on his left arm, bruising his left cheek and cutting his right elbow, after he threw his mother against a bedroom wall.

He also threatened to slit his parents' throats and burn down their home in the 1300 block of Bushkill Center Road, Bushkill Township, Northampton County.

Merritt had a bloody nose and mouth and smelled of alcohol when police arrived on the scene around 12:25 a.m. Thursday.

Merritt got into more trouble while being taken to the hospital by threatening a male and female EMS volunteer, officials said.

Merritt, 19, was arraigned on charges of assault, making terroristic threats, harassment, disorderly conduct and underage drinking and committed to the Northampton County Prison on $25,000 bail, according to court documents.

A preliminary hearing is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 13.
