Lehigh Valley Congressman Charlie Dent is raising the red flag about the medical device tax that's part of Obamacare.

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -

Lehigh Valley Congressman Charlie Dent is raising the red flag about the medical device tax that's part of Obamacare.

Dent spent some time with the Japanese ambassador at the Olympus headquarters in Center Valley Thursday just hours after voting to end the shutdown.

During the shutdown impasse Republicans were trying to eliminate the 2.3 percent tax on medical devices.

Dent says manufacturing companies have been laying off workers around the country because of the tax but he says he's grateful that it hasn't affected Olympus.

Dent says he hopes some hard lessons will be learned from the shutdown.

He says it's not time to celebrate.

"This is just a matter of the Congress fulfilling it's most basic and fundamental responsibilities to fund the government, make sure the county doesn't go into default. Nobody should be doing high-fives and spiking footballs in the endzone," said Dent.

Dent says the president needs to be more engaged in these discussions in the future.
