Christie's approval ratings rise

TRENTON, N.JH. -

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie appears to be weathering the storm surrounding the bridge-gate scandal.

A new poll says Christie's approval rating has risen to 51 percent.

It still hasn't recovered to the previous rating of 65 percent before the scandal broke, but it has steadily risen in the last several weeks.

An internal report conducted by Christie's lawyer was released last week that determined he was not aware of the plan to close lanes on the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee last summer.

The administration is accused of orchestrating the closure as political payback against the town's mayor.

Even as Christie remains dogged by the bridge traffic scandal, his fundraising prowess doesn't seem to be taking much of a hit.

Donors have given $33 million to the Republican Governors Association since Christie took over as leader late last year.

That far outstrips the amount raised at the same point in 2010, the last time there were 36 gubernatorial races.
