Nazareth councilman arrested

BUSHKILL TWP., Pa. -

For the second time this year, Nazareth borough council member Christian Audenried has been found intoxicated and passed out in his car with a bottle of vodka.

Bushkill Township Police Chief Michael McLouth said no formal action has been taken yet against Audenried for the latest incident, but charges are pending for driving under the influence of alcohol and having an open container of alcohol.

At about  6 p.m. Thursday, a Bushkill Township police officer was on routine patrol on State Park Road in Jacobsburg state park in the township.

Police usually patrol the park at and after dusk , because no one is allowed in after dark.

The officer observed a Kia SUV with a driver inside, slumped over the wheel.

The officer approached the vehicle and woke the driver. The officer detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from the vehicle and found an open bottle of vodka inside.

The male, identified as Audenried, was taken to the Bethlehem DUI Center after a field sobriety test was conducted.

The results of the test, which came back Tuesday morning, showed Audenried's blood alcohol content at .31 percent, almost four times the legal limit, according to McLouth.

In January, police found Audenried intoxicated and passed out inside his car, also with a bottle of vodka. That time the vehicle was in the parking lot of the Giant supermarket on Nazareth Pike in Nazareth.

The 50-year-old Audenried lives in first block N Whitfield St, Nazareth. He could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

Nazareth Mayor Carl Strye Jr. declined to comment because he does not yet have all the facts of the police investigation.
