Customers of some Chick-fil-A restaurants in Pennsylvania and New Jersey are among a select few across the country to try out some new breakfast items.
The Atlanta-based chain has begun a limited-time trial to evaluate the potential of the new items, which include a Belgian-style waffle with a caramelized sugar crunch and baked with maple syrup inside, a cinnamon biscuit roll served warm with cream cheese icing, and an egg and cheese sandwich with the customer's choice of bread (English muffin, bagel or biscuit) and meat (bacon, sausage or chicken).
"We have made significant strides in growing the breakfast day part over the last several years," said Amanda Norris, Chick-fil-A's director of product development. "
"Varying our breakfast menu beyond our signature Chicken Biscuits will provide more choice for customers."
Breakfast accounts for nearly 17 percent of Chick-fil-A's overall sales, officials said.
The new breakfast menu is being offered at 63 restaurants in the Philadelphia area, as well as at Chick-fil-A locations in Inland Empire, Calif., and central Georgia. The market test will continue through Nov. 2, the company said.
The test of the new menu items also brings a change to Chick-fil-A's fruit cup, with a switch from grapes to blueberries. The cup also consists of mandarin oranges, strawberries and pieces of red and green apples.
