A Muhlenberg Township woman woke up to a nightmare after a thirsty, pajama-clad intruder broke into her home and then led police on a chase into Reading.
The man, identified by family members as Arturo Sandoval, was found in Reading by police around 1 p.m. Wednesday, hiding inside a neighbor's home in the 700 block of North 12th Street.
The search for Sandoval began more than an hour earlier when a woman found the man wearing cartoon-themed pajama pants and treating himself to a drink inside her home in the 400 block of Spring Valley Road in Muhlenberg, police said.
"I completely feel violated. I mean, he could have harmed me in my room," said the woman, who asked we conceal her identity. "I wasn't sure if he was armed, and I wasn't sure if he was unstable, so I just tried to remain calm and tried to get him out of the house before I called police."
Sandoval was inside the home for more than an hour drinking orange juice and watching TV, said the woman. When he left, he got into a green Mazda Protégé and led officers on a chase into Reading.
"They just went flying by me, and all of them lined up, there was eight of them and they started pounding on the door over there," said Lisa Delp, who lives in the area where the search ended.
Police swarmed Sandoval's block and found him, wearing Angry Bird pajama bottoms, hiding inside his neighbor's house.
"When he don't drink his pill he acts up and he does stupid things, so that's what I think probably happened," said Xiel Sandoval, the suspect's brother.
"I'm upset, and I'm nervous and now. I have to get in contact with the landlord, and he's going to be putting cameras in," said the woman.
Sandoval will be charged with burglary, trespassing and other charges in Muhlenberg Township, said police.
He has already been charged for a burglary in Reading three days ago, said police.
