A Bucks County native is heading to the Winter Olympics in Sochi and the local speed skater would love to have his family by his side. But he needs help.
Chris Creveling, a Palisades High School graduate, needs nearly $35,000 to pay for his family's expenses.
"It's important for Chris to have his mom and dad there cheering him on," said Kay Pinkerton, Chris's aunt.
A large crowd gathered at a skating rink in Hunterdon County, N.J., to help raise money.
The fundraiser was held at the Frenchtown Roller Rink--a place where Creveling spent a lot of time growing up.
"It's a family business. We all learned to walk in our skates in this building," said Chelsea Creveling, Chris' sister.
Creveling started his career as an inline skater, but transitioned to ice in 2007.
Sunday's event was as much a fundraiser as it was a celebration.
"It's a really great opportunity for the community to come back and celebrate what he accomplished," Creveling said.
Creveling placed 16th in the 2013 World Championships, according to US Speed skating.
