Brandywine Elementary School reopens

TOPTON, Pa. -

Weeks of waiting are finally over for the Brandywine Heights Area School District's youngest students and their teachers.

The Brandywine Heights Elementary School opened to kindergarten through 3rd graders Monday morning.

It was the first time classes have been held there since mold was discovered inside the building in August.

The building remained closed to students and staff while workers replaced carpeting with tile and returned the building's air quality to safe levels.

In the meantime, the young students attended classes at the district's intermediate/middle school.

The state Department of Education has granted the district a waiver so that the elementary students won't have to make up for four missed school days in August and another last Friday.
