Berks native accused of sex charges in FL

ST. LUCIE, Fla. -

A teacher with roots in Berks County is facing multiple sex-related charges in Florida.

Police arrested Deron Bauer, a Boyertown native, in St. Lucie County after he allegedly exchanged inappropriate messages with some of his students.

Bauer, 34, faces multiple charges after he reportedly admitted to exchanging more than 100 messages and photos with two of his students at Centennial High School.

Most of those images were sexual in nature, and more than a few were of nude people, police said.

According to investigators, the science teacher also admitted to supplying the teenage girls with alcohol on at least two occasions. Bauer allegedly gave the teens homemade beer at one party and two 12-packs at another.

Bauer graduated from Boyertown Area High School in 1997. He is currently in the St. Lucie County jail on charges that include promoting sexual performance by a child, and obscene communication using a computer to solicit a child. Bail was set at $210,000.
