Bethlehem Township police: Masked intruders shoot homeowner, dog

Christmas lights on, cars in the driveway. But Saturday night was anything but ordinary for the family inside a Church Road home.
"I heard something that sounded like gunshots, or a banging noise," said neighbor Herb Wynne.
Bethlehem Township Police Sergeant Gregory Gottschall says the call came in around 10 p.m.
"It started with a knock at the door about 10:15," he explained. "Two masked persons were at the front door."
Investigators say 46-year-old Theodore Romanishan answered the door, and the pair forced their way inside.
"Engaged them in a scuffle to try to get them to leave," added Gottschall.
That's when officers tell us the intruders started shooting. The homeowner and his pet dog, Domino, were hit.
"One gunshot wound to the leg," Gottschall added. "It was non-life-threatening."
We're told the German Shepherd mix is in stable condition. Now the hunt is on for the two masked intruders.
"They fled the scene immediately after the scuffle, after the gunshots and left the area prior to police arrival," described Gottschall.
Officers combed the area looking for the suspects, and any clues. They say besides the homeowner's peace of mind, nothing else was taken during the violent attack.
"We're looking at this as an isolated incident specifically to this house, but there is a chance that it may not be, and the motive is unclear at this point."
"I'm just glad everyone's alright over there," Wynne added.
Gottschall says the crime is rare for the area, but investigators are urging folks to take caution.
"If you're not expecting someone, certainly you should take every precaution before answering the door to try and establish who it is," he shared.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Bethlehem Township police at 610-759-2200.
