Berks-based flag maker hiring 100 workers to expand in South Carolina

The Valley Forge Flag Co. provides U.S. flags to fly over the U.S. Capitol.

KINGSTREE, S.C. -

A Berks County company that makes U.S. flags will expand its plant in South Carolina and hire an additional 100 workers.

Valley Forge Flag Co. said Friday it is making a $2.5 million investment to expand into a building in Kingstree, Williamsburg Co. The Wyomissing-based company already has 200 workers in South Carolina.

The firm said it should begin hiring for the new jobs in January.

Valley Forge Flag Co. provides U.S. flags to fly over the Capitol in Washington, D.C., and for astronauts to take into space. The company also makes other custom flags and banners.

Valley Forge Flag Co. used to produce its flags in Womelsdorf, Berks Co., before relocating its manufacturing to South Carolina in 2005.
