PennDOT has temporarily reduced the speed limits on some area highways because of the wintry weather conditions.

Speeds are reduced to 45 mph on the following highways:

* Route 222 between Lancaster and Reading.
* Route 30 in Lancaster and York counties
* Route 283 between Lancaster and Harrisburg
* Interstate 83 between Maryland state line and I-81 in Dauphin County

Speed restrictions on Route 22 in Lehigh and Northampton counties, Route 33 in Northampton County and Interstate 78 in Berks, Lehigh and Northampton counties were lifted around 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Motorists can check road conditions on more than 2,900 miles of state roads by calling 511 or visiting the state's 511PA website, which provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, average traffic speeds on urban interstates and access to more than 500 traffic cameras.

PennDOT encourages motorists to avoid any unnecessary travel.
