A freak accident created some tense moments in downtown Reading late Wednesday morning.

A federal judge has overturned a Reading man's double murder conviction.

The judge ordered a new trial for Shawn Bridges, who was convicted and sentenced to death for the murders of cousins Damon and Gregory Banks.

Their bodies were found riddled with bullets and dumped off Neversink Road in Exeter Township in December 1996.

District Attorney John Adams said he plans to appeal the judge's ruling while his staff plans for the possibility of a new trial.

Roderick Johnson is also on death row for the two murders. A third man pleaded no contest to lesser charges.
