Search of Mi Esquina market turns up gun, synthetic marijuana

READING, Pa. -

A search of a corner market in Reading uncovered synthetic marijuana, cash, pills and a gun.

Reading police executed a search warrant at Mi Esquina Deli Grocery at 301 N. Front St. around 1 p.m. Thursday.

According to court documents, during the search, the man behind the counter -- Roman Torres-Grullon -- showed police a location behind the counter where synthetic marijuana was hidden, along with several dozen Viagra pills.

A few feet away, police said they found a 9mm pistol, also behind the counter.

Torres-Grullon said the synthetic marijuana behind the counter was offered for sale, but when it was gone he would no longer sell it. He also said he occasionally sold the Viagra pills as well, documents said. In the register, officers found $40 of pre-recorded buy money,

According to documents, among the items seized during the raid include: $5272 in U.S. cash; a 9mm pistol; 73 packets of synthetic marijuana with a street value of $1,460; two boxes of 9mm ammunition, one box of .22cal ammunition, 65 Viagra pills and a large amount of new, unused drug packaging materials.

The gun was found to be registered to Torres-Grullon.

He's been charged with manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver; possession of a controlled substance, use/possession of drug paraphernalia and related charges

Torres-Grullon is free on bail.
