Peace in the Streets

READING, Pa. -

Some residents in Reading are fighting to take back the streets.

The Peace in the Streets event was held Saturday at Barbey's Playground on Schuylkill Avenue.

The event was put together by the Gilmore-Henne Community Fund, which is run by NFL players John Gilmore and Chad Henne.

Organizers say the event is geared to bring the community together to promote peace in a city that has had three homicides since July 4.

Kids got a chance to play in a 3-on-3 basketball, participate in relay races and enjoy lots of food.

Christine Anderton, of the Gilmore-Henne Community Fund, said, "It brings people together. It gets neighbors to come out of the house. Come across the street. Hear the music, eat some food., meet each other. Things like that are always positive."

The kids also received school supplies to get them pumped up for the upcoming school year.
