A pregnant woman lost the brakes on her car and barreled into a building at the Morgantown interchange of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, state police said.
The accident happened around 8:20 a.m. Wednesday as the woman approached the turnpike toll plaza from Interstate 176 South in Caernarvon Twp., Berks Co.
The brakes on the 2000 Mercury Sable failed, prompting the woman, identified by police as Shanequa Core, to drive across the employee parking lot and hit the storage building, police said.
A turnpike official who was inside the building at the time of the crash told 69 News that the impact sounded like an "explosion."
No one was injured in the accident, but Core, 21 of Collingdale, Delaware Co., was taken to Reading Hospital for evaluation because of her pregnancy, police said. She was treated and released a short time later, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The car's state inspection sticker expired in January, police said.
