Police in Berks County will be taking extra steps to put the brakes on drunk drivers this weekend.
The North Central Regional DUI Enforcement Program will conduct a sobriety checkpoint on an undisclosed road in Berks County, officials announced Tuesday.
Checkpoints are conducted on highways that have high incidents of alcohol-related accidents and arrests, said David Bentz, North Central Highway Safety Network.
Officers will also be conducting roving patrols in search of drunk drivers throughout the county.
The DUI deterrence operations are funded through PennDOT and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, said Bentz, who urged drivers to call 911 if they suspect a drunk driver.
To report underage drinking, call 1-888-under-21.
