Police: Robber threatens to shoot grocery store cashier

Reading police are investigating an armed robbery in which they said one of the robbers threatened to shoot a grocery store cashier.

The holdup happened around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday at the Brothers Food Market in the 800 block of North 12th Street.

Two masked men went into the store, and one of the men pointed a gun at the cashier, police said.


The other man went behind the counter and grabbed between $200 and $300 in cash from the register, police said. The two men then fled down Windsor Street.

One of the robbers was described by police as standing about 5 feet, 7 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with a Hollister logo, dark blue jeans and a yellow bandana covering his face, police said.

The other robber stands about 5 feet, 7 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a sweatshirt with a New York script, a red and black baseball cap and a "devil" mask, police said.

Anybody with information is asked to call Reading police or Crime Alert Berks County at 877-373-9913. The Crime Stoppers group is offering a cash reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
