A Berks County man is facing charges after being caught driving around New York City with multiple weapons and a disturbing note, police said.
Victor Greer, 46, of Exeter Township, was pulled over by officers in Manhattan around 1:10 a.m. Wednesday after driving the wrong way down 7th Avenue, according to New York City police.
He was discovered with three knives and numerous rounds of .22 caliber ammunition, police said.
Officers arrested Greer and called in the bomb squad to search his vehicle, a white 2014 Chevrolet Cruze.
In the car, investigators said they discovered an AR-15 Colt M4 assault rifle, a .45 caliber Hi Point Model 4595 rifle, a black 9 MM semi-automatic handgun, a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, a bottle rocket, drug paraphernalia and more than 400 rounds of ammunition.
Investigators also allegedly found a note stating that the suspect wanted to "die in combat." The note also mentioned cats, his parents and his favorite movies, police said.
Chief Christopher Neidert, Exeter Township Police Department, said he was contacted by the NYPD and asked to check on the suspect's home at 14 Sawgrass Drive.
"Our officers went over to do a security check of the home and make sure the family was OK. The officers went to the door and everyone appeared to be okay inside the residence," said Neidert.
When 69 News went to Greer's home, a family member answered but declined to comment.
Neighbors told 69 News that Greer lived with his parents and seemed like a nice man.
"Very, very good man. He's extremely helpful as a neighbor. It is a shocker. It's like you've probably got the wrong man," said the suspect's next-door neighbor, who didn't want to provide his name.
Another neighbor, asking to remain anonymous, told 69 News that while she didn't know Greer, others in the development had observed strange behaviors from him.
"One of our former neighbors said he was a really nice guy but maybe wasn't quite right, sounded like some, maybe some mental health issues," she said. "I'm really sad for the family and for him."
Greer is charged with criminal possession of a weapon 2 (4 counts), criminal possession of a weapon 3 - assault rifles (2 counts), criminal possession of a weapon 3 - ammo clips (4 counts), criminal possession of a weapon 4 - firearm (4 counts), and unlawful possession of marijuana.
