Just as the season of giving kicks off there were some tense moments for a Salvation Army kettle worker.
Police say she came face to face with a Grinch who tried to run off with her donations.
Two people await arraignment in Berks County for an attempted robbery at a Redner's Quick Shoppe in the Township of Spring.
Police say at about 11:28 a.m. Monday, 58-year-old William D. Brannen of the 2200 block of Reading Avenue, Spring Township, walked into the Redner's Quick Shoppe and approached a female Salvation Army volunteer in the vestibule.
He threatened to take the money bucket but the volunteer was able to prevent Brannen from taking the bucket.
Brannen then entered the Redner's Quick Shoppe store and approached a female employee, who was working behind the register, and demanded that she give him all the money, according to police.
Brannen did not display a weapon and left the store without obtaining any cash, police say.
A female suspect, identified as Tyler Braxter Obas of the 1000 block of N. 12th Street, Reading PA, remained in a van parked outside the store.
Officer Christopher Laird arrived on scene within minutes of a call and observed two suspects outside the store. Laird apprehended Brannen, but the female suspect fled on foot.
She was apprehended by Sergeant Todd Peterson behind 2418 Penn Avenue.
Brannen was charged with 2 counts of attempted robbery and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Obas was not charged with attempted robbery, but she was charged with providing law enforcement officers with false identification and information, police say. Obas also had an active warrant for her arrest.
Both individuals were taken to the Berks County Central Processing Center and turned over to the Berks County Sheriff's Department to await arraignment, police say.
