WEST READING, Pa. -

This weekend might be a great time to try a new smart phone app that encourages Berks County residents and visitors to take a hike.

The Reading Health System, in partnership with Friends of the Reading Hospital, have introduced an app called "Outdoor Berks."

The free app features 170 parks and trails in Berks County. Users can search for the perfect park based on location and the type of activity they're looking for.

The app's goal is to meet the community's health and wellness needs by promoting the free resources available in Berks County, officials said.

The app is available for download in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
