Arrests stun neighbors

BIRDSBORO, Pa. -

Neighbors are stunned after two Berks County men were nabbed in a multi-state child porn bust.

Mark Wilczopolski seemed to be a model citizen: a former soldier and firefighter. But inside his unassuming Birdsboro home, prosecutors claim Wilczopolski had a dark secret. He was collecting underage porn.

"It's scary," said neighbor Marsi Detwiler. "It's right around the corner from where my kids play."

Federal and local prosecutors announced the charges Friday. In all, six men were nabbed. From Berks County, prosecutors arrested Wilczopolski and Glenn Kriczky, also from Birdsboro. Police claim both men traded nude pictures with a 13 year-old boy from Limerick.

"The minor was on the internet engaged in communication with different individuals in certain social media sites," said U.S. Attorney Zane Memeger.

Prosecutors claim other suspects went even further. Court documents accuse three of meeting the teen for sex and uploading the videos to the internet. One man from Collegeville allegedly had half a million images of child porn.

With so many ways for kids to communicate, authorities said cases this like this are on the rise. They say parents are the first line of defense.

"I think the reality is that we as parents need to know what our children are doing, make sure that you're taking a look at the web sites that they're visiting," said Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman.

Wilczopolski's neighbors pointed out that he lives near a school.

"With the playground and there's kids constantly riding bikes and walking the streets," said neighbor Sue Prince.

Detwiler added: "It's scary because you don't know. I could have seen this guy walking down the street and I had no idea that he's doing what he's doing with children."
