Berks County officials announced that mosquito spraying will take place Tuesday in parts of Reading, Wyomissing, and Wyomissing Hills.

Officials said the treatments will be administered via two vehicles, spraying residential and recreational mosquito habitat.

The effort is being conducted in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection in order to reduce the threat of West Nile virus.

One bird and 18 mosquitoes in Berks County have tested positive for the virus this year, according to data from the state's West Nile Virus Control Program website.

The spraying will provide "quick, effective control of adult mosquito populations," officials said in a news release issued Monday. There is no impact expected on non-targeted insects or the environment, according to officials.
