Work is nearly complete on a transmission line connecting Met-Ed substations between Reading and Muhlenberg Township.
The work is part of more than $9 million in upgrades the power company is making.
Met-Ed is building nearly five miles of new transmission line and rebuilding more than four miles of an existing line. Both lines should be active by the end of the month.
"Our investment in infrastructure upgrades in Berks County will help us continue to provide reliable service to our customers, and will enhance our system for future load growth," said Mike Doran, Met-Ed regional president. "In addition, by using existing rights-of-way, we also were able to minimize the environmental impact these construction projects had on the local area."
Met-Ed is also installing more than 80 utility poles.
